Goodreads synopsis: In a kingdom by the sea…

In a secret world where half-angel warriors are sworn to fight demons, parabatai is a sacred word.

parabatai is your partner in battle. A parabatai is your best friend. Parabatai can be everything to each other—but they can never fall in love.

My Thoughts while reading this book below.

Funny quotes in blue.
Other quotes in purple.

SPOILER WARNING!! The following could be spoilery if you haven’t read the book.

Pg. 73: “Hideously,” Julian said. “Fatally, fatally die.” <— Funny! Also, why is Julian acting so weird?

Pg. 79: Little kids are ALWAYS listening!

Pg. 95 “Mundanes think everything is a satanic cult activity,” said Malcolm. “Most cults are actually in service of completely different demons than Lucifer. He’s quite famous and very hard to reach. Rarely does favors for anyone. Really an unrewarding demon to worship.

Pg. 101: “When you love someone, they become a part of who you are. They’re in everything you do. They’re in the air you breathe and the water you drink and the blood in your veins. Their touch stays on your skin and their voice stays in your ears and their thoughts stay in your mind. You know their dreams because their nightmares pierce your heart and their good dreams are your dreams too. And you don’t think they’re perfect, but you know their flaws, the deep-down truth of them, and the shadows of all their secrets, and they don’t frighten you away; in fact you love them more for it, because you don’t want perfect. You want them. You want—” – Julian

Pg. 116: Cue dramatic fairy entrance.

Pg. 174: Poor Mark

Pg. 193: Poor Julian. Also, WHERE ARE THE FREAKING ADULTS TO HELP THESE CHILDREN??!??

Pg. 236: “I will not feed him to a tree, as is done in the Unseelie Court with unruly children,” Mark promised.
“That’s a relief,” Julian said dryly.
Also, why would Julian intentionally get things wrong on a test just to make Emma feel better? Couldn’t he just buy her chocolate or something?

Pg. 238: “Gross,” said Livvy admiringly. “I like it.”

Pg. 243: Ugh. I really hate the Clave.

Pg. 289: Woah, did not see that coming. At. All.

Pg. 315: Hmmm…. What’s going on with the iratzes?

Pg. 326: There is a lot of snorting going on in this book.

Pg. 328. Ok. I get that they are glamoured, but why gear up right in public every time? Anyone with the Sight can still see them.

Pg. 377: Does EVERYONE fall in love in this book? Emma and Julian, Kieran and Mark, Mark and Cristina, Cristina and Diego, Kit and Ty? (and later Mark and Emma?? Maybe?) My head is spinning with all of this.

Pg. 392: The love between siblings in this book is pretty incredible.

Pg. 394: I wonder if they will find a parabatai loop-hole and Cristina will end up being Emma’s parabatai? Just a thought that flitted through my brain while reading this. I like Cristina

Pg. 405: Who was the pale face in the window?

Pgs. 412 – 419: I love this story about Emma meeting Jem.

Pg.414: What do Jem and Tessa need to find?

Pg. 431: Diana is SHADY.

Pgs. 473 – 477: So glad this story was included in the book. It really explained the Arthur situation well.

Pg. 494: Mark rolled his eyes. He was clearly not a member of the Perfect Diego Appreciation Society.

Pgs. 512-525: That was intense and disturbing.

Pg. 552: That BASTARD. Ooooo….I was SO MAD!

Pg. 571: TAVVY DOES NOT HAVE ALMOST 20 PAGES FOR YOU ALL TO GEAR UP. HURRY UP!!!

Pg. 576: I KNEW Diana was shady!

Pg. 577: Okay, maybe it wasn’t Diana after all. Sorry, Diana.

Pg. 598: WHY is love between parabatai forbidden? I must know!

Pg. 600: Are they sure Malcolm is really dead?

Pg. 603: Okay, I guess they are sure he is dead.

Pg. 620: Oh, snap, Magnus! Calling out the Clave like that. What he said was so true!

Pg. 650: Who is Christopher Herondale?

Pg. 659: Ahhh…so we do find out about the parabatai curse. I was thinking we would have to wait until the next book for that.

That ENDING though! And then The EPILOGUE.

I forgot how addicting these books are!

Other thoughts:

  • I didn’t even notice that Emma stopped calling Julian, Jules. It really wasn’t that noticeable or effective.
  • Also, The Clave – Is there going to be a revolution soon because this shit is cray cray that the shadowhunters put up with.
  • Bring back Helen now too!
  • Also, what they did to Anselm Nightshade was really not okay. They need to make that right.

Have you read Lady Midnight? I’m sure most of you have (I am a bit behind). What did you think of it?
